Watch: Actress Amirah Vann reads to children in L.A.

Earlier this year, when How to Get Away With Murder actress Amirah Vann came to the Children’s Health Fund-supported mobile clinic program COACH for Kids in Los Angeles, she didn’t just meet our dedicated medical providers. She also visited a school where children receive health services through the mobile clinic and gave a group of students a memorable experience every child loves: storytime!

As the children listened intently, Amirah read them a book about the United States’ first Latinx Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor. Books are an important tool for the medical providers in programs we support across the country to soothe nervous children during medical exams and also to reinforce the importance of learning.

As Amirah and these children know, the power of books goes beyond storytime. Books help young minds grow and they foster children’s natural curiosity and thirst for learning. Books are an essential part of building a child’s healthy foundation.
