PBS Features CHF

08/17/2012

PBS news program NEED TO KNOW reports on Children’s Health Fund and its innovative efforts to combat the devastating impact of obesity on children in the low-income families we serve in the South Bronx.

Featuring interviews with Dr. Alan Shapiro, senior medical director of our flagship CHF program in partnership with Montefiore in the South Bronx, as well as the program’s registered dietician, Sandra Arevelo, NEED TO KNOW follows 10-year-old Carla Ellis, and her parents, as they face the news that Carla is on the road to diabetes due to childhood obesity. By enrolling in CHF’s innovative health and fitness class at our South Bronx program, Carla starts to turn her life around, despite the environmental conditions working against her.
