But VP Candidate Paul Ryan, while recognizing the issue, makes proposals that point 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Leaders of child advocacy, including Mark Shriver of Save the Children, Bruce Lesley of First Focus Campaign for Children, and Irwin Redlener of Children's Health Fund are quoted expressing their dismay in this Washington Post piece by Jonathan Capehart. Shredding the safety net would "put the nation's future at risk," Capehart writes. What we need is a compassionate and practical response -- not hypocrisy and political posturing. Read the article »
