Training Medical Teams

Children's Health Fund (CHF) Mental Health Program offers consultations, workshops and training, not only to CHF providers, but, also, to local doctors, nurses, hospital- and school-based social workers and clergy members in order to prevent “compassion fatigue” and “burnout."  Over 500 individuals have attended forums and peer consultations on such topics as: Cognitive Behavioral, Family and Group Therapy; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder vs. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Children; Coping Skills; the Medical Home Model; and more.

The Mental Health Program is engaged in a ground-breaking project to produce a “best practices” Mental Health curriculum and training experience for staff members throughout CHF's National Program, promoting the integration of medical and psychological perspectives and treatment.  The curriculum will inform CHF providers, while empowering them to outreach and educate community partners.

The Community Support and Resiliency Program also draws on CHF's expertise dealing with children in post-traumatic situations in the Gulf by by providing training in coping and resiliency strategies, art therapy and specialized training for school-based health clinics and local mental health providers.
