The Arkansas Children’s Health Project (ARCHP) provides medical services to children, adolescents and families in three counties in the rural Mississippi Delta region of eastern Arkansas. The ARCHP is part of Children’s Health Fund’s Medical Home and Transportation Initiatives; the Medical Home Initiative addresses the special needs of poor, medically underserved children and families living in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country, and the Transportation Initiative enhances access to transportation to medical appointments for patients living in areas with deficiencies in public transportation..
Bringing consistent, high quality medical services to isolated communities and providing care without regard to ability to pay, the ARCHP helps to overcome persistent barriers to health care in the region: geographic isolation, lack of transportation, lack of insurance and lack of financial resources. For many, the ARCHP is the sole medical care provider. The majority of the children living in this region is under-immunized and receives little or no preventive health care. Childhood obesity is a growing concern, as is the increase in number of children with asthma, iron deficiency anemia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
