CHF in North Carolina
Hi,
My name is Nanette Matthews I worked with CHF's SBCHC several years ago under then directors Alan Shapiro and Mercedes Rios, Jr. I am currently publishing an electronic newletter for the substance abuse treatment community here in North Carolina. One of the state mandates through the NC DHHS is to implement an electronic mental health records system. I thought about the implementation of NPAN way back in the 1990's and decided to google NPAN. Lo and behold, Karen Redlener's name came up along with her Nicholas Davies Awards' submission. NPAN was not only revolutionary but visionary as well. This vision is what many of our health care organizations lack here in North Carolina. It pains me to know that with all of the technological achivements North Carolina can claim it still ranks as number seven on the HIV/AIDS index out of 52 states. It will take vision and passion to organize a mobilization effort in the deep south. Nonetheless, I am enlivened in my passion and remain committed when I find that organizations like CHF are re-doubling their efforts despite the economic climate.
I am currently acting as co-PI as applicant and coordinator on a grant through DHHS to establish a Research Center in Durham, NC. I would be extremely honored to have CHF's input and guidance on the project.
If at all possible will someone please give my warmest regards to Dr. Alan Shapiro and the Redleners. It has been one of my greatest achivements to have worked with such a committed group of individuals. The experience continues to inform the corpus of my work.
Thank you .
Nanette Matthews
