When a family showed up at our New York homeless program with only the clothes on their backs, Nurse Oscar Pabon didn’t hesitate.

He went on Facebook and asked his own friends and family for donations. Then he drove around during his time off work and collected clothes, shoes and supplies to give the family, who were escaping an abuser.

That’s just Oscar, says Margaret Scott, Administrative Nurse Manager at the New York Children's Health Project.

“I could go on and on with stories highlighting his dedication and generosity,” she said Wednesday at a ceremony honoring Pabon with the national Healthcare for the Homeless Award. Pabon is a “true standout in this field, and someone who goes above and beyond every chance he gets,” she added.

The award was given out by the National Health Care for the Homeless Council.

We're proud of Nurse Pabon – one of the many dedicated professionals who work tirelessly with us to give disadvantaged kids, and their families, a chance.
