A Day of Fun for Gerritsen Beach Families

Face-painting at Children's Health Fund Gerritsen Beach Family Fun Day

Kids and adults alike enjoyed a day of games, crafts and food at our Family Fun Day in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn.

The post-Halloween bash at P.S. 277 featured a costume contest and face painting. Active games like the Beanbag Toss in the gym gave the kids a chance to stretch their legs. A healthy lunch and snacks helped keep the fun going throughout the afternoon.

The day ended in excitement when the children got to choose toys and books to take home.

It’s been a tough year for many residents of Gerritsen Beach, which was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy. The party was timed for just after the one-year anniversary of the storm – giving families something to look forward to at a time when they were wrestling with heightened media coverage and renewed memories of the disaster.

Children’s Health Fund has been working with families in the neighborhood for the last several months, helping them cope with the stress of uprooted lives and damaged homes. Their resilience inspires us every day. We’re committed to continuing this work as Gerritsen Beach rebuilds and recovers.
